Travel Agents Key to Connectivity: Faruk Khan
In a recent ceremony marking the conclusion of a training program at the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB), Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan underscored the crucial role of travel agents in maintaining global connectivity. Speaking as the chief guest, Khan highlighted the importance of integrity and professionalism in the travel sector.
Held at the ATAB office on Sunday, the certificate awarding event celebrated the accomplishments of trainees from ATAB’s Tourism Training Institution. Minister Faruk Khan commended travel agents for their role in bridging the gap between local and international travel, stating, “Travel agents are pivotal in connecting people with the world. It is imperative that they perform their duties with utmost integrity to prevent any issues for travelers.”
Emphasizing public service, Khan assured travel agents of continued government support, stating, “Our main aim is to ensure public service. Travel agents are cooperating and supporting us in this effort. You will receive full policy support from the government as you perform your duties.”
The Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing language skills alongside technical knowledge in tourism. “Trainees should focus on language development in addition to acquiring skills in various tourism-related subjects,” he said. “The goal is to equip them to work anywhere in the world.”
Looking ahead, Khan shared future plans for the tourism sector, including the establishment of a tourism university in Bangladesh. “We hope to create a skilled workforce for the tourism industry,” he added. “We urge all stakeholders to contribute sincerely to make this vision a reality.”
Addressing concerns about online travel agencies, Khan warned that non-compliance with regulations would lead to legal action. “We have heard various complaints about irregularities in online travel agencies. Everyone must adhere to the rules to avoid legal repercussions.”
The event also featured remarks from Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik, ATAB President Abdus Salam Aref, and other notable figures. The program was moderated by ATAB Secretary General Afsia Jannat Saleh.
