The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has completed local training on the operation of Explosive Trace Detectors (ETDs) for Aviation Security (AvSec) personnel at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CAAB recently installed 25 NUCTECH TR2000DC Explosive Trace Detectors at the airport as part of efforts to strengthen security screening through modern technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 44 AvSec officers and staff participated in the training, which was conducted by experts from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The participants were trained in operating the equipment, collecting samples, conducting detection procedures, analysing results and maintaining operational safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUCTECH TR2000DC uses Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology to detect minute traces of explosives and illicit narcotics. The system uses a non-radioactive ionisation source and can be used to screen passenger baggage, cargo and other surfaces for suspicious substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CAAB said the deployment of the ETDs would enhance the airport’s ability to detect explosives and narcotics and strengthen existing layers of security screening. Proper training of security personnel is also expected to ensure the equipment is used effectively and in accordance with established procedures and international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative comes ahead of an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security audit scheduled for November 2026. CAAB is seeking to strengthen airport security infrastructure, personnel skills and screening procedures as part of preparations for the audit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the training at HSIA, similar programmes will be conducted in phases at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, Osmani International Airport in Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CAAB said it would continue efforts to modernise airport security systems, improve technological capabilities and develop skilled personnel to ensure safe air travel and compliance with international aviation security standards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
