The government today launched free high-speed Wi-Fi service at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), enabling more than 37,000 passengers to access internet services simultaneously as part of efforts to strengthen digital connectivity and improve passenger services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam formally inaugurated the service at the on May 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Prime Minister\u2019s Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Rehan Asif Asad were present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to journalists after the inauguration, Minister Afroza Khanam said the initiative reflects the government\u2019s commitment to ensuring \u201cfast and reliable internet for all\u201d as pledged in its election manifesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe hope to inaugurate the third terminal very soon, which will be another important milestone for the country\u2019s aviation sector,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
State Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat said more than 37,000 passengers would be able to use free Wi-Fi service simultaneously across the airport premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Airport officials said the Wi-Fi network covers approximately 94,000 square metres, including Terminal-1, Terminal-2, Domestic Terminal, VIP and VVIP terminals, as well as the airport parking area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The modern digital infrastructure includes 250 access points, 48 kilometres of optical fibre and Ethernet cabling, and 37 access switches, ensuring stable connectivity with a maximum bandwidth capacity of 40 Gbps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each access point can serve up to 150 users simultaneously, allowing around 37,500 passengers to access the internet at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said that the trial operations of the Wifi began on April 26, nearly 20,000 passengers have used the service, consuming approximately 2.3 terabytes of data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They said the initiative would significantly enhance digital connectivity, communication and access to online services for both domestic and international passengers travelling through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
