Biman Bangladesh Airlines has donated Tk 4.67 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund from its profits for the 2024-25 fiscal year, marking the first such contribution in the history of the national flag carrier.
A Biman delegation led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kaiser Sohel Ahmed handed over a cheque for Tk 4 crore 67 lakh 42 thousand 714 to Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury at the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday.
The delegation included Biman’s Deputy Managing Director and Deputy CEO, Director of Finance and other general manager-level officials.
According to Biman, Section 234 of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 provides for companies to contribute 5 to 10 percent of their net profits to the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund.
In accordance with the provision, Biman contributed 10 percent of the amount deposited into its Workers’ Profit Participation Fund for the 2024-25 fiscal year, amounting to Tk 4.67 crore.
Biman said the contribution reflects its institutional responsibility to share profits with workers in line with the provisions of the Labour Act. The airline also pledged to continue fulfilling the responsibility through transparent and accountable financial management while complying with national laws and regulations.
The national flag carrier said the 2024-25 contribution was the first time in its history that it had paid a share of its profits to the Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund.
