Md Nazmul Hasan: Redefining Real Estate with Trust, Quality, and Affordability
From a service professional to a successful entrepreneur, young businessman Md Nazmul Hasan has turned his vision into reality within just seven years. In this exclusive interview with The Current View (TCV), the Chairman of NM Group of Companies shares his entrepreneurial journey, challenges, and his ambitious dream of making homeownership possible for middle- and upper-middle-class families in Bangladesh.
TCV: You began your career in service. What inspired you to leave that path and start your own business, and how has your vision evolved over time?
Md Nazmul Hasan: After completing my BBA and MBA in Finance from Daffodil International University, I began my professional journey in the service sector. For four years, I worked sincerely and gained valuable experience. But deep inside, I always had the dream of doing something on my own—something that would not only sustain me but also create opportunities for others.
In December 2018, I finally took the leap into business. I started small, with tiles trading. Over time, by the grace of Almighty Allah and through hard work, honesty, and dedication, I expanded. Today, I proudly lead the NM Group of Companies, which consists of nine sister concerns: NM Homes, NM Trading International, NM Smart Sanitary, NM Trade Center, NM Fisheries, NM Creative Interior, Urban Domicile Ltd, NM Home Pro BD Ltd, and Hajir.Shop.
My vision has transformed with every passing year. Initially, I wanted to secure my future and employ a few people. But during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019–2020, when I saw countless families leaving Dhaka in tears because they could not afford rent after losing their jobs, my purpose became clear. I realized—no one should live in a rented house for 30 to 35 years and still have nothing to call their own. Everyone deserves a home. That realization inspired me to establish a real estate company with the mission: “A flat for everyone who can afford a small monthly installment.”
Currently, our 19th project is running, and several others are in the pipeline. What started as a personal ambition has now grown into a social mission—to make homeownership a reality for all.
TCV: Your real estate venture has been growing rapidly. Could you tell us more about this journey?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Though our company is relatively young, we have been blessed with extraordinary trust from our clients. That trust is the real foundation of our growth. Our 19th project is currently under construction, most of which are located in Arshinagar, adjacent to Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and close to the Bosila Bridge.
The demand in this area is high because it is well connected to the capital yet still affordable. My goal is to expand further into the capital itself, and our next project in Dhaka city will begin very soon.

TCV: How would you describe your company’s unique value proposition compared to competitors in the real estate market?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Unlike big real estate companies, I construct apartments through share-based partnerships with landowners. Many large companies avoid this model because they believe it is less profitable. But for me, profit is not the sole objective.
I am satisfied with a 10% profit margin, which is considered unimaginable in this sector where many targets huge returns. This is one of the main reasons people prefer my company—we provide affordable homes without compromising quality.
I personally inspect every material—sand, bricks, rods—before they are purchased for construction. Quality control is my personal responsibility, and I never compromise on that.
Our clientele includes doctors, professors, IT experts, engineers, and businessmen—people who demand quality but also value fairness. Their trust motivates me to keep working with honesty.
TCV: What are the major challenges businessmen are currently facing in this sector? Do you have any suggestions for authorities?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Bangladesh is full of opportunities, and the business environment is generally positive. However, political instability at times hampers business. This is a common challenge for all entrepreneurs.
Another big challenge is access to finance. If the government could make SME or bank loans easier and smoother, more entrepreneurs would be able to start or expand businesses. That would also accelerate employment generation and economic growth.
TCV: There are allegations against some real estate companies for malpractice. What is your opinion on this?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Yes, unfortunately, many upstart companies have emerged in recent years, and some have engaged in wrongdoing. The allegations are not baseless. In fact, some large companies are reportedly taking profits up to 300%, which pushes flat prices beyond the reach of middle- and lower-middle-class families.
Housing is not just a commodity—it is a fundamental human need. When profit becomes the only motive, people suffer. My philosophy is simple: keep a fair margin, ensure transparency, and build trust. Only then can the sector truly serve society.
TCV: What is your five-year plan for your real estate business?
Md Nazmul Hasan: I believe quality housing is a fundamental right, not a luxury. Our mission is to provide secure, comfortable, and affordable homes for everyone.
In the next five years, we will expand projects across Dhaka city and beyond, strengthen our technical and professional team to handle larger and more complex projects, and ensure innovation in design, construction, and sustainability so that every project reflects our promise of quality and affordability.
Currently, our 19th project is underway, and more are lined up. I want every hardworking family—especially those who have lived in rented homes for decades—to finally own a home. Brick by brick, slab by slab, we are working to reshape the future of housing in Bangladesh.
TCV: In such a competitive industry, how do you ensure trust and transparency with your clients?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Trust is the cornerstone of our business. Sadly, due to fraudulence in the sector, people are often skeptical. That is why I take personal responsibility to ensure transparency in every step—documentation, pricing, construction quality, and delivery timelines.
I am not chasing wealth. What I have earned so far is enough for my personal life. Now, my focus is on serving people, generating employment, and building trust. I want every client to feel secure with us, knowing their investment is in safe hands.
TCV: What advice would you give to people who want to buy a flat?
Md Nazmul Hasan: I always advise buyers to do their homework before making a commitment. They should scrutinize the company’s history, reputation, and past projects and check all legal papers thoroughly before booking a flat.
Buying a home is often a lifetime investment, so caution is essential. Trustworthy companies will always be transparent and cooperative in this regard.
TCV: We also hear that you personally help needy people. Do you have any plan to institutionalize your philanthropic work?
Md Nazmul Hasan: Yes, I have always tried to help people in need in my personal capacity. But I am planning to establish a philanthropic organization to do this in a more structured and sustainable way.
My dream is to extend support to underprivileged communities—not just in housing, but also in education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. I strongly believe that success only has true meaning when it is shared with society.
