Kuakata Must Be Developed into an International-Standard Beach: Tourism Minister

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has stressed the need for planned development, modern facilities and environmental conservation to transform Kuakata sea beach into an international-standard tourist destination.

He made the remarks while addressing an exchange of views with officials of various agencies under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at Hotel Khan Palace in Kuakata on Thursday morning.

Describing Kuakata as a destination with significant potential for Bangladesh’s tourism industry, the minister said its unique appeal lies in the opportunity to witness both sunrise and sunset from the same beach, along with its vast sandy shoreline and natural beauty.

With proper planning and effective implementation of development initiatives, Kuakata could become more attractive to both domestic and international tourists, he said.

Millat said establishing an international-standard beach would require ensuring tourist safety, cleanliness, improved connectivity and quality accommodation. He also highlighted the need for modern public toilets, safe drinking water, adequate seating areas, information centres, parking facilities and emergency medical services.

Emphasising visitor safety, the minister called for the deployment of trained lifeguards, stronger rescue services and effective waste management along the beach.

He also underscored the importance of coordinated public-private initiatives to unlock Kuakata’s tourism potential. Greater involvement of local communities and businesses in improving tourism services could create new employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy, he said.

The minister added that expanding private-sector participation in tourism management could also increase government revenue.

He expressed optimism that coordinated planning and effective initiatives would help establish Kuakata as an international-standard beach, contributing not only to the growth of Bangladesh’s tourism industry but also to the economic development of the country’s southern region.
