Bangladesh to Be our First Aviation Venture in Asia: Mohamed Gamal

As Bangladesh’s aviation sector continues to attract growing international attention, foreign investors are increasingly exploring opportunities in the country’s expanding air transport and logistics market. Among them is Mohamed Gamal, Chief Executive Officer of AleXcina Air and PRFD Handling, who is planning to launch a range of aviation ventures in Bangladesh, including cargo, passenger, and private aircraft operations.

In an interview with Sadik Sagar of The Current View (TCV), Mohamed Gamal shares his assessment of Bangladesh’s aviation market, the company’s expansion plans, investment climate, and the opportunities he believes the country offers for international aviation businesses.

TCV: What are your plans in Bangladesh?

Mohamed Gamal: We currently operate two companies, and now we are preparing to launch a new airline venture in Bangladesh. Initially, we plan to start with cargo aircraft operations, followed by passenger and private aviation services. At present, the process is under application with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). We are optimistic that people will soon see our aircraft operating in the skies of Bangladesh.

Do you think the Bangladesh market is suitable for materializing your plans?

Mohamed Gamal: To be honest, this is my first visit to Bangladesh, and I am genuinely surprised by the size and potential of the market. I believe countries and investors around the world should pay attention to Bangladesh because it offers enormous business and investment opportunities. It is a vibrant and promising market. Anyone making a serious venture here has strong prospects for success.

TCV: Why did you choose Bangladesh for investment?

Mohamed Gamal: Before making the decision, we studied the market carefully and found it highly feasible from every perspective. In addition, the people of Bangladesh are very welcoming and supportive, which gave us further confidence. That is why we decided to move forward with our local partners and establish operations here.

TCV: There are perceptions about operational limitations and complications in Bangladesh. How do you evaluate the situation?

Mohamed Gamal: Every country has its own challenges, and Bangladesh is no exception. However, we believe these can be overcome through experience, dedication, and by strictly following the country’s laws and regulations. We are committed to complying with all official instructions and guidelines. With that approach, we are confident that our business can operate successfully in Bangladesh.

TCV: When do you expect to launch the venture?

Mohamed Gamal: We had actually planned to come earlier, but at that time the interim government was in power. Now, following the election and the formation of a new government, the process has gained momentum. Political stability is very important for foreign investors, and we are optimistic about the current environment in Bangladesh. The new government, modern airport infrastructure, updated regulations, and improved guidelines will all support the establishment of new aviation ventures.

We believe Bangladesh has a very promising future for aviation investment.

TCV: The global aviation industry is facing disruptions due to tensions in the Middle East. How do you see Bangladesh coping with these challenges?

Mohamed Gamal: I believe Bangladesh is in a strong position because of its large population and economic potential. The country has a significant market base and a growing demand for aviation and logistics services. With proper planning and continued development, Bangladesh can successfully manage external challenges and continue its aviation growth.

TCV: Could you elaborate on your business operations?

Mohamed Gamal: We operate two major companies named AleXcina Air and PRFD Handling. One specializes in aircraft leasing and cargo aircraft rental, while the other focuses on ground handling services at airports in Egypt, Lebanon, and parts of Central Africa. We are hopeful of bringing both businesses to Bangladesh. In fact, this will be our first venture in Asia, which makes Bangladesh especially important for us.

TCV: How has your company performed in Egypt?

Mohamed Gamal: I can proudly say that we are currently among the leading companies in cargo aircraft leasing and cargo handling services across airports in Egypt. We have been operating successfully since 2005 and have built extensive experience in the aviation sector. We believe this expertise will help us contribute positively to Bangladesh’s aviation industry as well.
