Bangladesh, India discuss open skies policy, air service agreement revision
Bangladesh and India have discussed introducing an open skies policy between the two countries and revising their existing Air Services Agreement to strengthen bilateral aviation cooperation.
The issues were discussed at a meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the minister’s office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The two sides also discussed waiving charges for the use of airspace, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
During the meeting, Trivedi expressed India’s interest in working with Bangladesh to develop the country’s aviation sector.
He also highlighted the potential use of India’s locally manufactured Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft on Bangladesh’s airstrips.
Millat said Bangladesh would coordinate with India where necessary to strengthen bilateral relations and establish Bangladesh as an aviation hub in South Asia.
The meeting also discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
