Golam Sorwar-Farid Majumder panel wins in HAAB election
The ‘HAAB Oikya Kalyan Parishad’ led by Syed Golam Sorwar and Farid Ahmed Majumder has won the full panel in the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) elections, an organization of Hajj agency owners.
The three-member election board, led by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Firoz Al Mamun, announced the results after a day-long election at the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital on Saturday (February 22).
Voting began at 9 am at the IDEB auditorium and continued without interruption until 4 pm.
In this election, three separate panels – HAAB Oikya Kalyan Parishad led by Syed Golam Sorwar and Farid Ahmed Majumder, HAAB Oikya Forum led by former president Faruk Ahmed Sarder, and HAAB Anti-Discrimination Democratic Alliance led by former secretary general M.A. Rashid Shah Samrat and Anti-Discrimination Hajj agencies leader Md. Akhteruzzaman – contested the polls.
The three executive members of the Sylhet zone for the 27-member executive committee were elected unopposed, while the voters voted for 21 members from the Dhaka zone and three members from the Chattogram zone. At the same time, the voters also elected their leaders for the three zonal committees.
