Shahjalal Islami Bank holds AML/CFT Compliance workshop in Rajshahi

Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC has organised a day-long workshop on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) compliance for executives and officials of its Rajshahi Zone branches.

The event took place at a local hotel on August 9 with participants from 12 branches of the bank.

Md Jaynul Abedeen, joint director of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), attended as the keynote speaker, while other speakers included Md Asadul Islam Khan, head of the bank’s Anti-Money Laundering Division and deputy CAMLCO, who spoke on credit-backed money laundering, and Muhammad Ashraful Islam, FAVP of AMLD, who addressed trade-based money laundering.

Speakers stressed the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in line with the laws, regulations, and directives of Bangladesh Bank, the BFIU, and the bank’s internal policies, said a press release.

They emphasised that preventing money laundering and terrorist financing is essential for national security and sustainable development.

“Money laundering hinders a country’s overall growth,” said one of the speakers, adding, “With timely and effective action, we can steer the nation towards real progress.”
