Biman reconstituted board holds first meeting

The newly reconstituted board of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Sunday held its first full-day meeting at Balaka, the airline’s headquarters, discussing key operational and strategic issues.

The meeting marked the formal beginning of activities of the new 13-member board formed through a government notification issued on April 25 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

The reconstituted board is headed by Chairman Rumi A. Hossain, Sponsor Director of Bank Asia PLC and chairman of its executive committee.

During the meeting, the board reviewed the airline’s overall operations, financial management, service quality, fleet expansion plans, enhancement of safety standards and future strategic roadmap.

Several important policy decisions were also taken to strengthen the national flag carrier’s competitiveness and efficiency, according to an official release.

The government expressed hope that the new board, comprising professionals from public administration, defence, banking, business, law and academia, would help transform Biman into a modern, self-reliant and internationally competitive airline.
