EgyptAir Expands Footprint in Bangladesh with Trusted Service: Syed Ali Samy
As EgyptAir approaches three years of operations in Bangladesh, the airline is preparing for a major expansion with plans to launch daily flights, introduce new travel packages, and strengthen connectivity between Bangladesh and global destinations through Cairo.
In an exclusive interview with Sadik Sagar of The Current View (TCV), Syed Ali Samy, Founder and CEO of Alo Dhaka Aviation Ltd and General Sales Agent (GSA) of EgyptAir in Bangladesh, shares insights on the airline’s journey, future plans, tourism opportunities, and the growing importance of direct air connectivity between Bangladesh and Egypt.
TCV: EgyptAir is completing nearly three years of operation in Bangladesh. How do you evaluate this journey so far?
Syed Ali Samy: We are proud to be entering our third successful year of operations in Bangladesh on May 14. Over this period, EgyptAir has established itself as a reliable and trusted airline for Bangladeshi travelers seeking connections to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and North America through Cairo International Airport. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh(CAAB), Biman authorities, Biman Flight Catering Centre (BFCC), banking partner Eastern Bank PLC, InterContinental Hotel, and all other aviation-related stakeholders in the country. Their cooperation has played a major role in our success. To celebrate this milestone, we are planning a grand launching event between the end of June and mid-July.
TCV: What are the current operational plans for EgyptAir in Bangladesh?
Syed Ali Samy: At present, EgyptAir operates two flights weekly between Dhaka and Cairo. We have already received approval from Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to operate daily flights, and we expect to begin the expanded schedule by the end of June. In addition, EgyptAir is continuously expanding its global network. A new route connecting Dhaka–Cairo–Los Angeles officially started on May 12, which will provide Bangladeshi travelers with more convenient access to North America.
TCV: Are there any initiatives regarding tourism and visa facilitation?
Syed Ali Samy: Yes, we are actively working to make the Egypt visa process easier for Bangladeshi travelers. At the same time, we are preparing to introduce attractive travel packages for Tunisia. Tunisia is a beautiful destination where travelers can enjoy a European-style experience at a comparatively affordable cost. One of the key advantages is that travelers will be able to receive on-arrival visa support through our Dhaka office, Alo Dhaka Aviation. There are also daily flights from Cairo to Tunisia, making the journey very convenient.
TCV: Could you tell us more about Alo Dhaka Aviation and its vision?
Syed Ali Samy: The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the global tourism and aviation industry. However, with the easing of travel restrictions and vaccination progress, the sector has gradually recovered, including in Bangladesh and Egypt. Amid these challenges, Alo Dhaka Aviation remained confident in its vision. Through our partnership with EgyptAir, we successfully launched the non-stop Cairo–Dhaka route in May 14 , 2023, creating new opportunities for passenger and cargo transportation. Cairo offers strong onward connectivity to Africa, Europe, and North America, making it an attractive alternative hub for Bangladeshi travelers. EgyptAir is also the only airline currently operating direct scheduled flights between Egypt and Bangladesh.

TCV: How important is direct air connectivity between Bangladesh and Egypt?
Syed Ali Samy: Direct air connectivity is vital for strengthening relations between Bangladesh and Egypt, especially in trade, tourism, and investment. There is significant untapped potential between the two countries, and discussions regarding a possible free trade agreement could further boost bilateral commerce and economic cooperation.
TCV: What are your thoughts on the future of the aviation and tourism industry?
Syed Ali Samy: The future of aviation and tourism depends on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. Building traveler confidence through safety and quality service remains essential for long-term growth. Despite global challenges, travel demand continues to rise, showing strong potential for the industry’s future expansion.
TCV: Any final message from your side?
Syed Ali Samy: I would like to thank our business partners, stakeholders, employees, and supporters for their continuous trust and cooperation. At Alo Dhaka Aviation Ltd, we remain committed to sustainable growth, strong corporate governance, and becoming one of the leading aviation service companies in Bangladesh.
