BATJA Forms Full Executive Committee; Safwan Elected President, Emon General Secretary
Bangladesh Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association (BATJA), an organisation representing journalists covering the country’s aviation and tourism sectors, has announced its 11-member executive committee for the 2026–2027 term.
The committee was unanimously approved at a meeting of the convening committee held at the organisation’s temporary office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
Under the new committee, Desh Television reporter Alimuzzaman Safwan has been elected President, while Ekushey Television reporter Emon Chowdhury has been elected General Secretary.
The other office bearers are: Senior Vice President Md. Shahadat Hossain (Desh Samachar), Vice President Kazi Faisal (Channel 24), Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir (The Daily Ittefaq), Organising Secretary Mehedi Hasan Murad (The Daily Inqilab), Office Secretary Daud Hasan (Maasranga Television), Finance Secretary Tanjila Khan Meem (Ekhon Television), and Sports and Cultural Secretary SM Arefin (Somoy Television).
The committee also includes Ariful Islam (News Twenty-Four Television) and Rashed Anis (Ekattor Television) as executive members.
According to the organisation, the newly formed committee will oversee BATJA’s activities during the 2026–2027 term. Its priorities include enhancing the professional skills of aviation and tourism journalists, improving access to information, organising training and research programmes, safeguarding journalists’ professional rights, and strengthening coordination with relevant government agencies and private sector stakeholders.
Speaking after his election, President Alimuzzaman Safwan said Bangladesh’s aviation and tourism industry is one of the country’s most promising economic sectors. He said BATJA would work to highlight the sector’s achievements, opportunities, challenges and public-interest issues through objective and responsible journalism while focusing on the professional development and rights of journalists covering the beat.
General Secretary Emon Chowdhury said the new committee aims to establish BATJA as a professional and active journalists’ organisation. He said the association would organise regular training programmes, seminars, workshops and networking initiatives to enhance members’ skills and further strengthen objective journalism for the development of Bangladesh’s aviation and tourism sectors.
