Millat promoted to full minister as cabinet expanded

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat has been elevated to the rank of full minister as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reshuffled and expanded his cabinet on August 21, 2026.

Millat was among four politicians sworn in as ministers at Bangabhaban, alongside BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho and BNP lawmaker Saching Prue Jerry of Bandarban.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to the newly appointed ministers and state ministers at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at around 7:40pm.

The elevation marks a significant promotion for Millat, a BNP lawmaker from Jamalpur-1, who had been serving as state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism since the formation of the government in February.

The latest reshuffle also brought Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir and Gaibandha-4 lawmaker Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln into the cabinet as state ministers.

With the latest appointments, the Council of Ministers, including the prime minister, has increased to 55 members, comprising 28 ministers and 27 state ministers. The cabinet initially had 50 members—25 ministers, 24 state ministers and the prime minister—when it was formed on February 17, 2026, following the February 12 parliamentary election.

The latest expansion comes six months into the administration and represents the latest in a series of changes to the cabinet since its formation.

The swearing-in ceremony took place shortly after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir himself took oath as the country’s 23rd president, following his election by parliament on August 20.

The elevation of Millat to full minister is particularly significant for the civil aviation and tourism sector, as he moves from the state ministerial position to lead the portfolio at a time when the government is pursuing reforms and expansion in aviation, tourism and related infrastructure.
