New Trolleys Added at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

Seven new measures have been taken to improve trolley management and reduce passenger inconvenience at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Airport authorities said they are working continuously to improve passenger services with the cooperation of all stakeholders. The measures were introduced following recent complaints from passengers about a shortage of trolleys at the airport.

Under the new measures, 200 trolleys have been brought from different airports outside Dhaka and added to the trolley fleet at Shahjalal International Airport. More than 50 non-functional trolleys have also been repaired and returned to service.

The authorities have also strengthened monitoring of trolley staff to ensure they perform their duties according to assigned rosters.

Based on flight schedules and identified peak hours, the maximum possible number of trolleys is now placed at designated locations in advance so that passengers can access them after leaving their aircraft.

As flight operations are suspended at night for runway maintenance, passenger pressure increases during the morning. The airport has therefore increased trolley operations during the morning shift.

A zero-tolerance policy has also been introduced to prevent misuse of airport trolleys. Mobile courts led by executive magistrates are conducting regular drives, with fines and jail terms imposed on those found misusing the facilities.

A WhatsApp group has been formed for round-the-clock coordination among the relevant teams. It allows trolley shortages to be reported immediately and measures to be taken to address them.

Meanwhile, the procurement process for additional new trolleys is underway as part of a long-term solution.

A senior airport official said improving passenger services remains the authorities’ main priority and that efforts are continuing around the clock to ensure passengers do not face inconvenience over trolley availability.

Passengers have also reported improvements in trolley services at the airport following the measures.
