BMTA Leaders Hold Talks with US Business Representatives on Healthcare Cooperation

Leaders of the Bangladesh Medical Tourism Association (BMTA) held discussions with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and the US Embassy on opportunities to strengthen Bangladesh’s healthcare sector through international cooperation and investment.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 30th US Trade Show 2026, which concluded in Dhaka on Saturday after a three-day exhibition featuring 43 companies. Organised by AmCham, the event opened on November 5 to mark three decades of commercial relations between Bangladesh and the United States.

On the second day, BMTA representatives attended a special session on improving the quality of Bangladesh’s healthcare services through public-private partnerships (PPP). Dr S. M. Ziauddin Haider, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, attended the session as chief guest.

During a meeting on the sidelines, AmCham President Syed Mohammad Kamal and Paul Frest, Commercial Counselor of the US Embassy, discussed potential collaboration with BMTA to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

Kamal expressed interest in working with BMTA to develop the healthcare sector, including initiatives aimed at building an integrated and internationally competitive healthcare system.

Mirza Shajib Raihan, an executive member of AmCham’s Healthcare Committee, also attended the meeting.

The BMTA delegation included its President A. K. M. Mufasserul Haque, Vice Presidents Shabbir Ahmad Tamim and A. M. R. Mazumder Liton, Secretary for International Affairs Abdur Rashid, Assistant Secretary for IT and Digital Transformation Nazmul Islam Rafi, and former president and current executive member Mohammad Arif Hossain.

The engagement comes as Bangladesh seeks to expand its healthcare capabilities and develop medical tourism as an emerging economic sector. Cooperation with US business representatives could create opportunities for investment, technical expertise and knowledge exchange, although further initiatives would depend on concrete agreements between the organisations.
