Sammilito Islami Bank Takes Over Global Islami Bank
Sammilito Islami Bank PLC has officially taken over responsibility for Global Islami Bank, marking the completion of the new bank’s takeover of all five banks involved in the merger.
The handover took place on Thursday at the head office of Bangladesh Bank in the presence of Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostaqur Rahman.
Global Islami Bank Administrator Md Muksuduzzaman formally handed over the bank’s responsibility to Sammilito Islami Bank Chairman Kazi Shairul Hasan and Managing Director Md. Abedur Rahman Sikder.
Senior Bangladesh Bank officials, a deputy governor and members of the Sammilito Islami Bank board were present at the ceremony.
The handover of Global Islami Bank came alongside the transfer of responsibility for Union Bank. With these two institutions, Sammilito Islami Bank has now formally assumed responsibility for all five Sharia-based banks merged to create the new entity.
Following the takeover, Managing Director Md. Abedur Rahman Sikder said the bank would work to resume normal banking services as soon as possible. He also called for cooperation from Global Islami Bank’s employees, customers and other stakeholders as the new institution moves forward.
Sikder said the management would focus on restoring customer confidence through stronger governance, full compliance with Sharia principles and expanded inclusive banking services.
The takeover of Global Islami Bank represents another step in the government’s broader effort to consolidate the five merged Islamic banks under Sammilito Islami Bank. The immediate priority will now be to ensure continuity of services and address operational and confidence-related challenges during the transition.
